HIFIMAN is giving you the opportunity to take part in a Headphone Loaner Tour. It‘s that simple and will cost you nothing to take part.
The iBasso Dap sounded powerful with strong staging, decent imaging and precise positioning. Bass region full and deep sounding.
In this article we look at the Hifiman RE-2000 Silver and RE-800 Silver. A variation of the two top IEMs from the Chinese Hifiman.
Hifiman Sundara headphones are an open-back planar magnetic design that can be driven with a portable device like a cellphone or tablet. Though they are $200 less expensive than the discontinued Oppo headphones, I would not rate them as “next best.”
Both the RE2000 and RE800 used what Hifiman defined as Topology dynamic drivers. This is something Fang and the Hifiman team worked on for 3 years in the lead up to the original launch of the gold editions. This type of diaphragm is being touted as being unique and a huge improvement on traditional dynamic drivers. Particularly, in the way it controls distortion and how much additional tweaking Hifiman can exact on the sound signature before it goes to market. In part, this process pulls from Fang’s experience working on his recent planar design materials as well as his core academic research into nanotechnology.
It isn’t just all about width either with a clear and focussed centre image glueing everything together in the middle for a soundstage that is realistic as well as large. Very few IEMs create an experience like this in terms of sheer airy expansion.
The best overall headphones for music are the HiFiman Ananda. These open over-ears are one of the best sounding headphones we’ve measured so far, and they’re slightly less expensive than the often compared Sennheiser HD 800 S. They cater well to all genres of music and have open-back ear cups with planar magnetic drivers that offer a spacious soundstage, which feels like you’re listening to speakers instead of headphones.
The Topology diaphragm structure used by HIFIMAN greatly reduces the uncontrolled diaphragm distortions, enabling the operational performance of dynamic IEM’s to an approach to an ever superior, trend towards perfect wave control.
The soundstage excellent for an IEM, with excellent height and width. The accuracy of the imaging is also incredible, it is so easy to pinpoint instruments in the soundstage, yet without affecting the coherency.
RE2000 provides some of the most engaging and detailed sound I’ve heard out of any audio product – full-size headphones and speakers included.
HIFIMAN has increased sensitivity to 96dB from 90dB and retained the same 35 Ohm impedance and 8Hz~65kHz frequency response of the V2, which makes the 1000se reasonably mobile-friendly for those so inclined. Weight is up very slightly from 420 grams to 440 grams.
